Multi-employer pension plans (MEPPs) bring together two or more unrelated employers and make it possible for them to contribute to a single pension plan.
MEPPs are often established in unionized industries and sponsored or administered by trade unions. The employers are connected in some way (through like-minded industries or unions, etc.), and members tend to be carpenters, electricians, or similar workers who make hourly wages, are hired by their unions for short periods of time, and move between employers. Each plan is managed by a diverse group that could include the union and management, with a certain representation by employees and/or members.
